7 Spiritual Practices for Peace: Wednesday = Speaking for Peace
I have vivid, memorable dreams almost every night, and last night was no exception. This week, I am blogging about my experience of living Deepak Chopra‘s 7 Spiritual Practices for Peace, and I dreamed today’s practice. In the dream, several vignettes happened in short order. Here are a couple of them:
My aunt, was talking about someone and saying, “You should just let people live their lives.” My first thought in the dream was that the pot was calling the kettle black, but I did not want to speak anything contentious, so this is what I said to her: “You know, one of my favorite authors says something about that, and I think of it often. Richard Bach says, ‘We teach what we most need to learn,’ and I find that to be true. What I notice about others is what I need to work on.” She laughed and I felt glad that I had spoken peace instead of criticism to someone who habitually tends to tell others what to do.
Another scene in the dream happened at a live performance. THe person seated next to me wildly applauded for the leading lady, whose performance I thought was flat and boring. I figured she must know the performer or, most likely, they were family. The spectator asked me what I thought of the performer and I decided my true opinion was not the least bit important. “She really poured her heart into the role,” i said. “I love live theater.”
So already in my sleep I was practicing today’s practice of speaking for peace. As I move thorugh the day, I will look for opportunities to diffuse conflict, pay attention to my own inner voice and speak peace over my life.
Interestingly, just now my 2 cats, who love each other and get along well, got into a spat, so I told them we have a peaceful home.
Stay tuned for news of the release of The Peace Seed book!

Update:
Today I went into town, which happens about 1 or 2 times per week. There is a new grocery story, and I noticed that tension was high, so I decided to smile, greet lots of people and spread the viral smile everywhere. Some of the harried staffed let down their shoulders and smiled back.
I also met a wonderful Native American elder named 3 Feathers, who is a local artist. We had a lovely conversation next to the frozen foods. I look forward to receiving his stories.
A smile may not have words, but it does speak peace.
